HR Nightmare VR Experience

THE CHALLENGE:
Create a fun experience for People Ops and Human Resources Leaders, making their first exposure to Virtual Reality as delightful as possible, with lots of comedy and a game design made for people who have no idea how to play games.

Challenging indeed.

I was tasked with everything soup to nuts: developing the original concept, creating all story and game elements, scripting dialogue (that needed to be funny), hiring the creative team to build out and publish the experience on Meta Quest, directing voiceover talent, and leading design for the in-person tour assets.

THE SOLUTION:
Simple, fun, and filled with jokes just for People Professionals.

Considering this would be many HR professionals’ first virtual reality experience EVER, we designed the game to be simple, short, and fun, with industry in-jokes and weapons like a Pineapple-adorned battle axe called “vacation time,” reminiscent of a tropical cocktail.

Virtual Game, Real Smiles

THE RESULT:
Unbridled success. Every person who played HR Nightmare smiled, laughed, or shrieked— most of the time all three.

This was one of the most challenging, but rewarding, projects I’ve ever worked on and it’s one of the things I’m most proud of in my career.

Not only did we introduce hundreds of people to a technology that will give them a leg up when discussing future endeavors like virtual employee training, but we did it with an unforgettable, highly engaging experience.
