Marriott VR Postcards & VRoom Service
Stunning destinations, technological achievements, real travel stories, and two industry firsts:
First Virtual Reality travel content platform
First in-room VR service for any hotel brand
Virtual Travel
THE CHALLENGE:
Traveling is so much more than a picture of a beautiful beach or a video of a bustling city. Travel is experience.
Building on the success of our revolutionary experiential 'VR Teleporter' in New York City, we were tasked with creating a new platform for delivering real personal stories about sharing and exploring the different places in our world from an authentic perspective.
“It’s Like I’m There”
THE APPROACH:
Real travel goes beyond a stamp on a passport. By showcasing the lives and personal anecdotes of locals on an intimate new storytelling platform, Marriott could inspire their guests to challenge existing expectations of travel and embark upon new adventures.
Virtual Reality was the only technology that could truly put people in that place to feel those authentic experiences for themselves and ignite their passion for travel.
VR Postcards
THE EXECUTION:
We developed entirely new techniques native to VR, crafting experiences to give the viewer a deep sense of “presence” in their location. Each traveler told inspiring stories for guests to reflect upon and ultimately echo by visiting that location for themselves.
Starting in NYC the production team traveled to Santiago, Chile; from there to Kigali, Rwanda, passing through Sao Paolo, Brazil and Johannesburg; then Beijing via Uganda to Qatar. It was a massive undertaking to fly all around the world in two weeks, capturing stunning HD stereoscopic footage in 360 degrees with a custom RED camera setup.
VRoom Service
THE ON-SITE EXPERIENCE:
In order to showcase the experience to as many people as possible, we worked with Samsung to fabricate VRoom Service kits for Marriot locations, containing a headset ready to go, custom headphones, and foolproof instructions.
Promoted on-site, the kit could be ordered to your room, just like ordering room service.
The world's first in-room Virtual Reality travel experience.
Another Victory Lap
THE RESULT:
500 Million social media impressions
300 Million PR impressions
”The results are meditative, gentle and genuinely interesting, with none of the whizz-bang special effects you expect from VR ... the results are little works of art.” -T3
